This year's Met Gala is bridging the gap between fashion and technology (with the help of Taylor Swift).

What exactly does that mean? It means everyone attending will be donning outfits influenced, in some regard, by the Interweb. To celebrity stylist Sophie Lopez (who will be dressing Kate Hudson), that means it's time to turn on the shine—not only on the red carpet, but also at home. Let's have her explain it to you...

Keeping with this year's Met Gala theme, "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology," I'm excited to incorporate modern and effortless looks—that are both futuristic and tech-inspired—into my personal wardrobe as well as on the red carpet for my clients (such as the shiny metallic silver gown by Maria Lucia Hohan that Kate wore to the Oscars Vanity Fair party in February).

It's really easy to work these cutting-edge looks into your everyday wardrobe by mixing them with basics you already have.

A few of my favorites are:

SHIMMER & GLITTER

Incorporating shimmery looks that either have sparkle woven in the threads or actually have mirrored accents sewn on (seen on the runway at Loewe's SS16 show) are perfect for a more formal affair. I loved how Victoria Beckham dressed up lingerie-inspired pieces (very popular this season) by using fabrics that have some sheen to them. It really brings the pieces to life and, well, everything's more fun with some shimmer and shine!

Sparkle and glitter can be worked into your wardrobe in so many ways. Whether it's a mini tank dress made in a sparkly fabric, a pair of sandals decked out in Swarovski crystals or a fun nail or lip color that has a bit of glitter incorporated into the color.

METALLIC LEATHER

There are so many fun metallic leather pieces out there. They come in various colorways like gold, silver, bronze, even electric blue and they're incredibly versatile. The fabric works with everything from a string bikini when you're on holiday to a crop tank top with high-waisted light blue denim shorts to an accent piece (like a really great pair of heeled clogs that can literally be worked into any outfit) that will spice things up and update your look.

EXPOSED ZIPPERS

I don't think exposed zippers ever go out of style. They're super chic and fun! If you're not ready to embrace full on metallic and glittery frocks, this is an easy way to modernize your look. I'm currently loving classic black leather jackets with exposed zip detailing and feminine blouses that have more of an edge with an exposed metal zip.
