During a visit to Lambs Lane Primary School in Wokingham in south east England, a 9-year-old student named Tristan asked the royal an awkward question during an assembly.
"Are you ever going to be king?" the boy asked.
"That's the question everybody wanted, let's be honest! You'll be glad to know, probably not," Harry replied, drawing laughs from the crowd.
"Oh look at the disappointment! I love that!" he said, then walked over to Tristan and have him a high-five.
Harry, 31, is fifth in line to the British throne. His father Prince Charles, 67, is set to become king after his mother, the reigning monarch Queen Elizabeth II, who just turned 90. The second-in-line to the throne is Harry's older brother Prince William, 33. No. 3 is his and wife Kate Middleton's son Prince George, 2, and No. 4 is their daughter Princess Charlotte, who will turn 1 next week.
"I just want Prince Harry to do what he wants, what he really, really wants," Tristan later said, according to the U.K. newspaper The Telegraph. "I think it would be a fun experience for him to be king. I would love to see him be king.
The prince was visiting the school to film an episode of the Sky Sports series Game Changers that was dedicated to the third annual Invictus Games, a Paralympic-style sporting event for ill and wounded military servicemen and women and veterans from around the world. Harry is a royal patron of the games.
The 2016 event will be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando between May 8 and May 12. It will feature 500 participants from countries such as Afghanistan, France, Germany, Iraq, the prince's native United Kingdom and the United States. Harry announced in March that next year's Invictus Games will be held in Toronto. Canadian star Mike Myers will attend as a special guest.
