Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt's second season was chock full of 30 Rock references and Robert Durst jokes, but did you miss the scene where Tina Fey and Robert Carlock's script threw shade at Taylor Swift? You might have!
The joke comes when Titus Andromedon (Tituss Burgess) gets upset when Kimmy wants to shower because he's busy giving his Barbie dolls perms. He refuses to let her move them in order to use the shower, but she puts her foot down and ultimately gets her way. The spat leads Titus to say, "There's a special place in hell for women who don't help other women."
Sound familiar? Let's rewind.
During the 2013 Golden Globes, Fey and co-host Amy Poehler made a joke about Swift's love life. "Stay away from Michael J. Fox's son," they quipped during the awards show. Although it was a perfectly innocent joke, the "Style" songstress didn't take it too well and uttered her now-famous line in an interview with Vanity Fair when asked what she thought.
Upon reading it, both comediennes addressed the comment and apologized for hurting the pop star's feelings. "Aw, I feel bad if she was upset. I am a feminist and she is a young and talented girl. That being said, I do agree I am going to hell. But for other reasons. Mostly boring tax stuff," Poehler joked to The Hollywood Reporter shortly after.
Her co-host added, "It was just a joke, and I think it was actually a very benign joke."
Fey resurfaced Swift's quote the following year at the 2014 Golden Globes, when Poehler won for Parks and Recreation. "I just want to say congratulations again to my friend Amy Poehler," the 30 Rock star said at the time. "I love you, and there's a special place in hell for you."
We're already anxious for what the show's third season will bring to the small screen.
