Last month, we were incredibly excited to hear that a Princess Diaries 3 could actually happen when the franchise's director Garry Marshall mentioned he'd chatted with Anne Hathaway about taking part in it.

Now, Marshall, 81, explains that he's gotten Disney in on the idea of a third film. In fact, he sat down with E! News' Erin Lim during a junket for his latest film, Mother's Day, and dished that the company and him are "in talks" about getting it going.

"Well, you know, Disney is quite powerful," he began, "and they say they would like to announce—not me—but we are talking."

He continued, "Anne Hathaway has a baby now...and a wonderful husband, Adam [Schulman]. And people change. There's a passage. It goes, 'Hello! Oh! I'm discovered in this movie!' If it's a comedy they say, 'Alright, enough of that, I want to be an O.D. on drugs; I want to be naked.' And they go through that period."

However, he says that almost every time the stars of his films end up wanting to work with him again. "Then they have a child and come back to me and say, 'I'd like to do something my child could see.' And I'm very good and making things your child could see and the whole family!"

Well, considering Anne gave birth to her baby boy a few weeks ago, we're guessing this turnaround might come in the near future, and we can't help but hope it's for a third Princess Diaries film.

As for Anne's son, Jonathan Rosebanks Shulman, a source tells E! News he is "is extremely healthy and is surrounded by friends and family in L.A.."

The insider also added, "Anne and Adam are ecstatic to be parents."
