Once Upon a Time, Megan Ory, Teri Reeves

ABC

Once Upon a Time kept its promise, but maybe not in the way most viewers were expecting.

After showrunners Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis promised that the show would be exploring its first LGBT relationship this season, most fans expected the sparks to start (or continue) flying between Mulan (Jamie Chung) and Aurora (Sarah Bolger).

That, however, is not what ended up happening.

Tonight, Ruby (Megan Ory) was able to bring Dorothy (Teri Reeves) out of a sleeping spell with the infamous true love's kiss, which was followed by much more kissing

The episode, cleverly titled "Ruby Slippers," chronicled their entire relationship, from when they first met while Ruby was on the hunt for her pack to Ruby trying desperately to save Dorothy from Zelena's (Rebecca Mader) curse.

"You came back for me," Dorothy exclaimed, surprised, upon waking up.

"I always will," Ruby responded, and they resumed their kissing while the munchkins looked on.

Meanwhile, back in the underworld, Henry added the sweet story to the storybook.

"We want the show to reflect the world as it is now," Horowitz said in September of the storyline, saying that an LGBT relationship was "due" on the show.

Nothing else may be going right in Storybrooke or the Underworld, but at least Ruby and Dorothy (who call each other Wolfie and Kansas) seem to finally have some happiness in their lives.

Once Upon a Time airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
