Although Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman's marriage is ending, the couple is putting family first.

A source close to the couple tells E! News that they are figuring out how to keep their family life with their kids, Frankie and Olive, as normal as possible, despite getting a divorce. Barrymore and Kopelman will be living in the same city, according to a source, adding they are still living in the same house.

Even though their decision to split seems sudden, it turns out it was anything but. "This was a slow burn. It was not a decision that they came to over night," the insider adds. "They worked on things for a long time and have had time to adjust."

Now, Barrymore has cut back on acting roles in order to focus on her family, but when she did work she made sure everyone traveled with her. "Keeping everyone together was important to her," the source explains, adding, "Drew is doing well."

The Never Been Kissed star stepped out in Los Angeles this week, and one look at her left hand reveals that she has taken off her diamond wedding band and replaced it with a simple silver ring. She looked casual in a bohemian-style dress and chunky heels, hiding her eyes behind a pair of sunglasses.

Even though she and her art consultant husband are calling it quits, Barrymore was all smiles at her first public event since announcing their separation. The 41-year-old actress was promoting her Barrymore Wines collection at the Pebble Beach Food & Wine event in Carmel, Calif. Her happy appearance may be a result of finally having the news out in the open, given that she and Kopelman made the decision a while ago, a second source tells E! News.

"It was a hard decision but they knew it was for the best," the source says. "They will remain close and will put their kids first no matter what. They are both handling things well. They both have had time to adjust to this."

Before Barrymore and Kopelman tied the knot, they knew they didn't have a lot in common. "They went into the marriage knowing they were very different people," the source adds. "That wasn't a surprise. They just grew apart."
