Prince William and Kate Middleton to Make First Taj Mahal Visit, 24 Years After Princess Diana

Royal couple will being India Tour in April

Princess Diana was photographed at the Taj Mahal during her visit to India in 1992—an image that has become famous for embodying the Princess but also for the demise of her marriage with Prince Charles.

Nonetheless, the famous monument of love remains a staple in keeping Diana's memory alive, and thus will be a touching moment as Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton make their own visit in April, 24 years later.

"[Prince William] feels incredibly lucky to visit a place where his mother's memory is kept alive by so many who travel there," the Cambridges' communications secretary Jason Knauf said in a statement.

"Twenty-four years on from her visit to the Taj, the duke and the duchess are looking forward to seeing this beautiful place for themselves and creating some new memories as they say thank you to the people of India at the conclusion of this tour," Knauf added.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will embark on their tour of India and Bhutan on April 10 and will stay through April 16. It will mark their first trip to India, and according to the Kensington Palace, they will leave both Prince George and Princess Charlotte at home.

Another part of their visit will include paying tribute to the 166 people killed in the 2008 attacks at the Mumbai hotel. They will lay a wreath and meet the staff who helped protect guests during the attack.

Then, due to his campaign against illegal poaching, the royal couple will travel to Kaziranga National Park in Assam, which is home to a majority of the world's population of Indian one-horned rhinos and endangered swamp deer.

While in in Bhutan, they will hike nearly six hours to pay a visit to Paro Taktsang, the Tiger's Nest monastery that dates back to to 1692.

The trip is important following the recent controversy surrounding Prince William. He came under some scrutiny after reports were released that stated he only carried out 87 appearances in the United Kingdom in 2015 and just 35 that surrounded international affairs.

When compared to his 94-year-old grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, who carried out 250 appearances last year, people began criticizing William as a "part-time royal."

Looks like this busy trip will help subdue a little bit of that chatter!
