The music has ended for Nashville.

ABC has canceled the show after four seasons on Thursday, Deadline reports. The season four finale, airing on Wednesday, May 25, will now serve as the country drama's series finale. Fans were hopeful for a renewal after it was announced that Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick would be taking over as show runners for a potential fifth season.

Season four of Nashville, the musical drama about country music superstars and songwriters played by Connie Britton, Hayden Panettiere, Charles Esten, Jonathan Jackson, Sam Palladio, Chris Carmack and Clare Bowen, saw the long-awaited wedding between Britton's Rayna James and Esten's Deacon. Panettiere's Juliette Barnes was absent for several months while her character sought treatment for postpartum depression (just like the actress did in real life).

With Nashville canceled, a few shows are still living on the bubble at ABC: American Crime, Castle and Agent Carter were left hanging, as were comedies Galavant, Last Man Standing, Dr. Ken and The Muppets.

On March 3, ABC renewed 15 of its fan-favorite series—but Nashville was conspicuously absent from the list. The veteran series that were renewed included the entire TGIT lineup (Grey's Anatomy, Scandal and How To Get Away With Murder), The Bachelor (duh), Dancing With the Stars (double duh), Once Upon a Time, Fresh Off the Boat, Black-ish, The Goldbergs, Marvel's Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., Modern Family, The Middle, Shark Tank and America's Funniest Home Videos. Freshman drama Quantico also got picked up for another season.

"We're very proud of our strong roster of performers, and we're excited about what they will bring us creatively next season," newly appointed ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said in a statement announcing the early renewals.
