When Bridget, a.k.a. Renee Zellweger, stepped onto the scene way back in 2001, she granny-pantied her way right into our hearts. She was self-conscious, she was funny, she was looking for love, she was all of us. (Of course all of us didn't get to be in a love triangle with Hugh Grant and Colin Firth, but we'll let that detail slide). The flick became an instant cult classic thanks in most part to how amazingly dopey ol' Bridg managed to be, and thus a successful movie franchise was born.
Today audiences were treated to the very first look at the third installment, Bridget Jones's Baby. Until now, we've been subsisting on the occasional paparazzi shot of Zellweger holding a fake movie baby, and it wasn't really that satisfying. So in honor of this milestone we've decided to take a little walk down memory lane to look at the very first Bridget Jones trailer from 15 years ago. True to form, there are a whole lot of similarities. (And yes, if you're wondering, we're just skipping over that whole Edge of Reason era. It's best to just forget it and move on.)
Let's journey back.
The first trailer was classic Bridget. If something can be classic from its very first minute, that is. It introduced us to the character, what with her clumsy ways and wearing of embarrassingly large underwear and proclivity for alcoholics and peeping Toms.
She has mental breakdowns in her pajamas while "All By Myself" plays in the background.
She has a special place for alcohol of any kind, but particularly the variety that allows her to feel better about having a super messed-up love life and also feeling directionless at work.
And even better if said alcohol also fuels periods of chain-smoking and performing horrendous karaoke. Don't you tell Bridget Jones she's not the life of the party.
The original trailer also contains plenty of one-on-one time between Hugh Grant and Colin Firth, which all we have to say is: Yes, please. They're fighting for most of this screen time, but that's kind of better?
And then there's the trailer for Bridget Jones's Baby. She's finally all grown up and married and ready to start on this new path of adulthood and maturity!

This is Bridget Jones! Of course it's going to get all mucked up for the sake of our onscreen entertainment. We soon get to see the realness of her life, which may not include a husband but does include some very Bridget-y things, all of which are a definite flashback to 2001 and the glory days.
She still like-a-the-vodka. She's still the life of the party, albeit this time "party" veers more towards massive club rave and less towards sad office karaoke party. And she's still trying crazy workout fads that are probably much too intense for her skill level. But she is loving lifeee.
EXCEPT when "All By Myself" comes on. That song still haunts her, and it still somehow knows the most inopportune times to play over the radio, like when she is sitting in her pajamas (again), alone (again), and celebrating what appears to be a very depressing birthday.
She still has awesome coordination, and is making super educated decisions about her wardrobe. (Let's all learn from Bridg: Never wear white to a music festival).
And most importantly, there is another love triangle with two hunky middle-aged men! Considering it appears they both believe themselves to be the one and only father of the baby in question, the forecast is ripe for some street fights.
The actual movie hits theaters in September, so brace thyselves for even more nostalgia.
