HBO, MarvelIt's official: Finn Jones is suiting up for Marvel in the next Netflix series, Iron Fist. The new series follows Jones as Danny Rand, a kung-fu master who returns to New York City after being missing for years. In addition to the fighting prowess, Danny Rand has the ability to summon the power of the fiery Iron Fist, hence his name.
The Game of Thrones star was deemed the perfect choice by showrunner Scott Buck.
"Danny Rand is a very complicated character. He's a billionaire New York Buddhist monk martial arts superhero who's still trying to figure out what exactly that all means," Buck, executive producer and showrunner of Marvel's Iron Fist, said in a statement. "Finn is able to play all these levels in such an honest, revelatory way that as soon as I saw him I knew he was our Danny."
Marvel's Iron Fist, like Jessica Jones and Daredevil before it, will be 13 episodes. Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist are all set to join forces for a miniseries, The Defenders, after each gets their own individual series. Daredevil season two premieres on Friday, March 18. Jessica Jones was renewed for a second season after its November 2015 debut and Luke Cage is expected later this year. No premiere date for Iron Fist was announced.
"Finn wonderfully blends confidence with vulnerability, making him the perfect choice as he struggles to find his place in the world," Jeph Loeb, executive producer and head of Marvel TV, said in a statement. "Now that we've found our Danny Rand, we've completed our principal cast for the upcoming Defenders on Netflix and we are thrilled to continue to show audiences unexplored corners of the Marvel Universe."
Jones is in Game of Thrones season six, debuting Sunday, April 24 on HBO, and is also known for his work in Hollyoaks.
