Chipotle has been through a lot lately, including doing all they can to dust themselves off and move forward. The burrito chain closed a whopping 43 stores due to a recent E.coli outbreak which sent customers to the hospital. Not chic. Soon after, the company took Feb. 8 to close all of its stores. A rep confirmed to E! News, the stores shut down for one day to hold a national employee meeting. Why? To find a way out of this giant food fiasco, of course. It appears they might have done just that.
BuzzFeed says, the company recently shelled out roughly 3.5 million free burritos in order to show customers their food was safe again. Bold move, guys!
Chipotle's E.coli outbreak has been a major issue since October. BuzzFeed also notes the burrito freebies were also intended to make stores appear less empty and "eerie," according to Chipotle executives. Free burritos would def solve that problem. Way to slay, Chipotle. Don't give up the good fight!
