With a Grammy under her belt and many other accolades to go along with it, Meghan Trainor should be one of the most confident young women in the world...but it wasn't always that way.

In an emotional interview with CBS Sunday Morning (which will air in full on March 6), the pop star opens up about her heart-wrenching struggle with body image at a young age—a fight she only recently overcame.

"I–every day–wore sweatshirts and sweatpants to cover up my body because I was so insecure," Trainor admitted. "And it would be summer. And I would go on vacation and I'd be in Trinidad and Tobago, 90-degree weather, and I'd be wearing sweatshirts that said ‘Nantucket.'"

While family members would beg her to put on a tank top or shorts, she said, "I didn't want to show my arms. I didn't want to show anything, and I was just so insecure and uncomfortable, and I thought, like, 'All right, if I'm fully covered, I'm good. And that's not what I should have been feeling."

Now, she feels incredibly proud of herself, but her heart still hurts looking back on her childhood self—not only because she remembers her insecurities, but also because she knows how much she doubted herself. Though she always knew she had the talent, she never thought she would be able to showcase it due to her appearance.

"I see pictures of my face and…I'm sad, and I'm in a sweatshirt and I'm in my room producing because I just turned off the idea of, 'You'll be the face.'"

Obviously, she proved herself wrong, and with songs like "All About the Bass," she continues to be a role model for young girls everywhere.

"I get messages all the time, 'I hated myself, I didn't want to go to school. I was so uncomfortable, and now I love myself. And I was in a really dark place until your song came out,'" Trainor says. "And I was like, ‘Whoa, man, we've got to do more of these. We've got to do more of these songs."
