TV Land's pilot for The First Wives Club will have a modern twist. Written by New Girl's Rebecca Addelman with Sex and the City and The Big C's Jenny Bicks on board as executive producer, the new First Wives Club will be set in modern day San Francisco. The TV story, like the movie, revolves around three women who were friends and classmates, except now they went to school together in the 1990s. They reassemble after a college friend dies in a freak accident and discover they're all at a romantic crossroads. Now they're banded together to tackle divorce, relationships and "life's other annoying challenges." Paramount Television is producing.
The network also officially handed out a pilot order to the untitled Kyle Richards project. Richards, who appears on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, will serve as a co-executive producer on the show loosely based on her life. The series is set in the 70s and centers on Bonnie Nolan, a 40-year-old woman with two daughters who finds herself single with no means to support her family after her marriage fails. The Comeback's John Riggi wrote the script and will executive producer alongside ER and The West Wing's John Wells.
TV Land also announced Teachers would return for a second season and it's struck a new deal with Darren Star, the creator of Younger.
"Looking ahead, we're developing shows that are funny but also embrace real dramatic moments," Keith Cox, TV Land's executive vice president of original programming, said in a statement. "We're fortunate to be working with such amazing collaborators as we continue to reinvent the network."
