Sarah Jessica Parker Defends Sex and the City's Ending After Darren Star Expresses Regrets About It

Despite Sex and the City creator Darren Star's recent comments, Sarah Jessica Parker still believes Carrie Bradshaw's marriage to Mr. Big at the end of the series played the perfect conclusion.
Star had previously expressed that their wedding diminished the message of the show: that women can find happiness without a man or marriage.
However, Parker says she still believes Carrie did just that.
The actress sat down with Yahoo! Style and explained, "As I recall, the way Carrie and Big married was something she wanted rather than a feeling that life was slipping away and she best settle quickly. I don't think of it as someone diminishing herself by letting a man marry her—it always felt that she had arrived at that on her own."
However, she says that's the best part about SATC! Everyone has so many different feelings about it, and none of them are wrong or right.
"The beauty is we can all have lots and lots of opinions about lots of choices Carrie made that we object to or that we stand by," she said. "If that's Darren's feeling, I think it's interesting!"
In Star's recent Kindle Singles, he explained why he believes SATC's romantic ending "betrayed" the series.
"At a certain point, you've got to let [the other writers] follow their vision," he explained of allowing other people to help him write and produce the series at the end. "But I think the show ultimately betrayed what it was about, which was that women don't ultimately find happiness from marriage. Not that they can't. But the show initially was going off script from the romantic comedies that had come before it. That's what had made women so attached."
He added, "At the end, it became a conventional romantic comedy," he concluded. "But unless you're there to write every episode, you're not going to get the ending you want."
