The Clueless actress and Fox News contributor recently came under fire after she called for the end of the BET network and Black History Month on live television. The 49-year-old was addressing the current Oscar backlash from celebrities like Jada Pinkett Smith and Lupita Nyong'o regarding the lack of diversity among the nominees this year.
"We have to make up our minds. Either we want to have segregation or integration and if we don't want segregation, then we need to get rid of channels like BET and the BET Awards and the Image Awards where you're only awarded if you're black," she said during a broadcast of Fox & Friends Wednesday. "If it were the other way around, we would be up in arms. It's a double standard."
The network didn't take kindly to her remarks, responding to her public call on their Instagram account and asking for their paycheck back for her recurring role on one of the network's previous original shows, The Game.
Fresh off the presses, Dash retorted with a lengthy—and fired up—blog post directed at the decades-old program: "Thank you for reminding me, since most people have never heard of that show."
"I'm thankful for all of the acting jobs I've had," she continued. "But, I look forward to the day when people don't self-segregate based on skin color, while loudly complaining about a segregated society."
The star was just getting started. In the post titled "How BET Lies to Black People," she cited recent quotes from the President of Programming Stephen Hill, who weighed in on the lack of diversity at this year's upcoming Oscars.
"It would be great if the Oscar nominees represented even closely the percentage of moviegoers who are of different ethnicities, but they don't," he said, according to the New York Daily News.
Dash doesn't think he understands the award.
"Oscars are awarded to the actors and actresses who excel...not the audience," she wrote. "What's next? Awarding $1 million to the guy sitting in his pajamas on the couch watching Survivor? Giving a blue ribbon to the kid who stayed home from field day? Giving a Nobel Peace Prize to a President who escalated wars in Iraq and Afghanistan?"
She also claimed BET operates on a double standard.
"My problem goes back to the notion that every area of life needs to break down exactly according to demographic ratios except in those areas in which black people have decided they want to have their own space," she added. "I don't have a problem with black people having their own space. I have a problem with the folks at BET absolutely freaking out when other institutions don't match up to what they think is best."
The opinionated commentator concluded with a final accusation—the network is fibbing and she's caught them.
"BET lies to American black people by telling them that the rest of America is racist, so stick close to your own kind," she finished. "They're absolutely mortified that someone like me—an independent-thinking black woman—dares call their bluff."
While BET has not yet responded to these specific allegations, the network's Twitter account referenced Dash's ex-boyfriend, Ryan Prophet, who called his former partner's recent statements "f--king terrible."
"@RealStaceyDash's week has zero chill - She just got dragged by an ex. Hard," BET tweeted Friday morning.
