Gwen Stefani has been a style icon since first stepping onto a stage in the 90s, and part of her ability to maintain that title has been staying true to herself through every stage of her personal life.

The Voice coach sat down with Who What Wear to open up a bit about her fashion sense, including her new line of eyewear with her brands L.A.M.B. and GX by Gwen Stefani. She says her style and design choices continuously fluctuate with where she's at in her life.

For example, when asked how her style has evolved over the last 10 years, she says she's in a "more emotional" place with it right now.

"I still like a lot of the same things. I'm still a fan of Comme des Garçons," she reveals. "The biggest change [is that] before Kingston was born, I was in the middle of the Love. Angel. Music. Baby. album—that was an amazing style period. Incredible photographers, and we made a lot of clothes and costumes."

However, she adds, "I feel like this record is not a thematic record like that one was. This is a lot more emotional record. More about emotion and truth and honesty. That's where am at: I'm at an emotional place right now."

After a year that saw her divorce from Gavin Rossdale (which reportedly stemmed from him cheating) and a heated new romance with Blake Shelton, we can see how her emotions would run wild—something that can easily be reflected in her fashion choices.

In fact, that's precisely why Gwen doesn't feel the need to ever give fashion advice—it's not about the rules; it's about wearing something that makes you feel happy!

"I'm not good at style tips. I hate rules and trends," she admits. "I hate giving advice. I don't get that. Whatever makes you feel good!"

As for her collection of eyewear, Stefani says she wanted to reflect her abstract style and her personal taste in each pair.

"Generally, I wanted to do a collection that represents my style. Glasses are one of my favorite accessories because they say so much about your personality," she explains. "I like hip-hop influences and I love retro sunglasses. It's all in there…I designed the glasses using myself as the model. I would fix them to make everything perfect—little details like a grommet on the side or where the logo goes. It's a lot of options and a lot of work."
