Yep, Prince William was a "completely unexpected" visitor Wednesday, head teacher Clive Matthew told the BBC. The royal and his team had apparently been transporting doctors for the East Anglian Air Ambulance when they decided to take a lunch break at the school.
"It was really quite bizarre," said Mr. Matthew, adding, "We have the air ambulance use the school site quite regularly and whenever they land the staff go out, we clear the field of children and offer the crew refreshments."
This time, though, Prince William and co., landed a helicopter on the school playing field and then said, "Yes, please," when offered lunch. Mr. Matthew told the BBC that Prince George and Princess Charlotte's dad "ate roast chicken, cauliflower cheese and vegetables, but did not have dessert." William might've skipped the sweets, but he did very kindly donate the cost of his meal to a children's charity.
As you might expect, students were quite shocked to have a royal dining among them. Many of them took to social media in disbelief, sharing grainy photos of the glasses-wearing prince chatting with their pupils. HELLO magazine excerpted a few of the comically bewildered tweets, including one screenshot of a chat between two young ladies.
"So the day you don't come in Prince William lands a helicopter on the filed and cannelloni [is] on the menu for lunch," one girl texted her absentee pal. The recipient of this text tweeted a screen grab of it, adding glibly, "Not quite sure which I'm more upset about, Prince William or the cannelloni :(("
The struggle is so real.
