Chris Pine would love to see Idris Elba as 007.

Elba plays the villain opposite Pine as Capt. Kirk in the upcoming Star Trek Beyond.

"I think he'd make an incredible James Bond," Pine told me yesterday while promoting his new drama The Finest Hours with Ben Foster.

Pine gushed about the English actor, "He's a beautiful man, so talented. He's very sweet, incredibly charismatic and it's a great way to end the trilogy with such a talented dude coming on board."

Fast & Furious director Justin Linn directs the third installment of the rebooted franchise from a screenplay written by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung. "It's like the kids have taken over the house, the insane asylum," Pine said. "it's really good fun. It feels a lot like the first film."

In The Finest Hours, which is based on a true story, Pine leads a Coast Guard rescue of two oil tankers wrecked in a storm off of Cape Cod in 1952.

Most of the film was shot in a large—and very cold—water tank.

"You just do it [and] get used to it as fast as you can," Pine said about jumping into the tank for the first time. "It's kind of overwhelming and so cold. It's just a bit miserable that you just lock onto the guys who were with you on the boat and build a rapport."

Co-star Casey Affleck, who plays one of the men on the oil tankers, got hooked on the wet and chilly conditions. "This is a true story—I missed it when it was done," he said. "I would take cold showers in the morning just to wake up. Coffee wasn't enough."

The Finest Hours is in theaters on Jan. 29.
