With The Walking Dead firmly entering into its Negan era when the AMC hit returns next month, we finally know who'll be playing one of the more important characters from the comic books.

24 and Nikita vet Xander Berkeley will appear as Gregory in the second half of season six, E! News has confirmed. And if you know anything about TWD's source material, you'll know that his presence is nothing but bad news. But, really, when has anyone new on this show been anything but?

TVLine first reported Berkeley's casting.

So, who is this Gregory? Well, AMC's keeping mum on details surrounding the TV version of the character, however in creator Robert Kirkman's comic books—SPOILERS AHEAD—he's the cowardly leader of the Hilltop Colony who makes life even more of a living hell for Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan), especially. His involvement with Rick's group leads to Glenn's (Steven Yeun) death and he even poisons Maggie himself.

There's no telling if any of Gregory's story as it's been told will make it to the show, but with his imminent arrival and the promised debut Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan at the end of the season, that relief fans felt over Glenn's shocking survival in the first half of season six may be short-lived.

Following the mid-season finale in November, TWD boss Scott Gimple previewed the show's Valentine's Day return with a statement on Talking Dead. "We will be wooing you with the weirdest of Valentine's Day gifts: Chaos, terror, heartbreak, heroics, tragedy, and terror. Yes, that's two terrors," he wrote. "Friends, in all seriousness, episode nine is one of the biggest episode we have done. Greg [Nicotero] and the astounding cast and crew made magic. We can not wait to show it to you February 14. Make sure your television boxes are in good operation conditions and install safety belts on your couches. This one is gargantuan."

From The Walking Dead, we wouldn't expect anything less.

Did TWD make the right choice in casting Gregory? Are you even more worried for Glenn now? Sound off in the comments below.

The Walking Dead returns Sunday, Feb. 14 at 9 p.m. on AMC.
