Netflix's new documentary series dropped on Friday, Dec. 18 and it's going to be the talk of your office holiday parties, your New Year's Eve parties, your New Year's Day hangover brunch…you get the picture. It's like The Jinx meets Serial, so you know everybody's going to be talking about it.
A 2005 newspaper article inspired Making a Murderer. The series hails from Laura Ricciardi and Moire Demos. The duo spent the last decade documenting the 30-year story of Steven Avery, "an outsider on the wrong side of the tracks." Avery was convicted and later exonerated of a brutal assault. After his release he filed a lawsuit in attempts to expose local law enforcement corruption. In the midst of the case he became the prime suspect in a grisly murder. The documentary series examines allegations of misconduct by the police and prosecutors, evidence tampering and witness coercion, as well as scientific advances and legislative reforms.
"If we had not been there to witness these events we would have trouble believing they actually occurred. Our goal has always been to share that experience with viewers. Our partnership with Netflix has allowed us to tell this story in a way that wouldn't have been possible anywhere else," directors Ricciardi and Demos said in a statement.

"Ricciardi and Demos have navigated very complex terrain and skillfully woven together an incredible series that leaves you feeling like you're right in the middle of the action."
