TwitterAmerica Ferrera and Gina Rodriguez are not the same person.
The rest of the world knows that, of course, but the Golden Globes' official Twitter account apparently does not. Ferrera joined actors Angela Bassett, Chloë Grace Moretz and Dennis Quaid at the Beverly Hilton Hotel Thursday to announce the nominees for the 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards. Ferrera, who won the 2007 Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical for her starring role in ABC's Ugly Betty, was the first announcer to take the stage at 5:15 a.m. PT. The Golden Globes' Twitter account shared a photo of her at the podium and misidentified her as Rodriguez not once, but twice.
The tweets were quickly deleted, but not before a number of Twitter users called the organization out for confusing Ferrera and Rodriguez:
Rodriguez, who became the first actress on The CW to win a Golden Globe for her starring role in Jane the Virgin, was not present for Thursday's nominations ceremony. She did, however, score her second nomination in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical category, where she'll compete with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend's Rachel Bloom, Scream Queens' Jamie Lee Curtis, Veep's Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Grace and Frankie's Lily Tomlin. Ferrera, meanwhile, stars in the NBC sitcom Superstore, premiering Jan. 4 at 8 p.m. ET.
Neither Ferrera nor Rodriguez has commented on @GoldenGlobes' error.
After emceeing the show in 2010 and 2011, Ricky Gervais will host the Golden Globes for a third time on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016. Beginning at 8 p.m. ET, the show will be broadcast live on NBC from the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
