Not all love stories have a happy ending.
Kristen Doute and James Kennedy are never, ever, ever getting back together. The former Sur server and the DJ broke up over the summer as Vanderpump Rules was shooting its fourth season. Since the show returned to Bravo earlier this month, Doute realized that in addition to Kennedy hooking up with hostess Lala Kent, he'd also dissed their relationship behind her back.
Seeing a breakup play out onscreen was nothing new for Doute (remember when she dated Tom Sandoval?), but it still wasn't fun. "It was almost worse watching it than having it happen."
"By the time the Lala thing happened, I was already ready to break up with him," Doute tells E! News, explaining that she found out about Kennedy's dalliance shortly after confronting him at work. Coworker Jax Taylor "kind of spilled it on accident, like Jax always does," she says. "I was already over it, but watching it and watching how proud James acts, no remorse...It's so gross."
Doute says Kennedy's comments about their relationship were uncool, and as a result, they no longer talk. "I have him blocked in every way possible: social media, e-mail, phone," she reveals.
Since her split with Kennedy, Doute has been seeing Brian Carter. She didn't plan on getting into a new relationship so soon, but Carter managed to sweep Doute off her feet. "For four years I've been a relationship gypsy. That's how I've always been," she says. "So, after James and I [broke up], I really wanted to focus the whole summer on working on me…I knew what I didn't want in a relationship. I didn't really know what I wanted. That was kind of the thing."
After Kennedy, Doute "wanted to focus on rebuilding my friendships." Taking a mini break from love "was really good for me," she explains. "I kind of made it a rule for myself, like I was not going to be in a serious relationship for a long time, but in going through that, there's no never or forever. I met someone who was great. There was no point in kind of staying away from it."
Vanderpump Rules airs Mondays at 9 p.m. on Bravo.
