The most wonderful time of the year arrived a little early!

Thanksgiving is less than a week away, but Carly Rae Jepsen is already in the Christmas spirit. The 29-year-old Canadian pop princess released her cover of Wham!'s 1984 classic holiday song "Last Christmas" Thursday evening, tweeting, "Winter white. Soft focus. Candy canes. Waves." Though Jepsen's synth version is similar to the original, the singer made sure to give it a modern makeover.

Jepsen is far from the first musician to put her spin on "Last Christmas" and release it as a single. Others who have done the same include Whigfield in 1995, Billie Piper in 1999, Jimmy Eat World in 2001, Ashley Tisdale in 2006, Crazy Frog in 2006, Cascada in 2007, Alcazar in 2009, Joe McElderry in 2011 and Ariana Grande in 2013. Other artists have performed "Last Christmas" without releasing it as a single, including Hilary Duff, Carole King and Taylor Swift.

As of now, Jepsen has not announced plans to release a full-length holiday album.

Instead, the singer has been promoting her third studio album, E•MO•TION, which spawned the hit singles "I Really Like You" and "Run Away With Me." In fact, it wasn't until just after Jepsen completed her eight-city Gimmie Love tour in Japan Thursday that she released her cover of "Last Christmas."
