We are getting closer and closer to hanging out with fierce, blue aliens at Walt Disney World and new details about its Animal Kingdom park's new Avatar-themed land have been revealed.

Construction on the expansion began in January 2014. Its name, Pandora—the World of Avatar, was revealed at the 2015 D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, in August. At the recent 2015 D23 Expo in Japan, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek talked about a new attraction, the Na'vi River Journey.

"The adventure begins as guests set out in canoes and venture down a mysterious, sacred river hidden within the bioluminescent rainforest," the Disney Parks blog stated in a Friday post. "The full beauty of Pandora reveals itself as the canoes pass by exotic glowing plants and amazing creatures. The journey culminates in an encounter with a Na'vi shaman, who has a deep connection to the life force of Pandora and sends positive energy out into the forest through her music."

Also in August, Disney revealed details about Pandora's signature attraction, the Avatar Flight of Passage, which "will allow guests to experience what it's like to fly with banshees."

Pandora—the World of Avatar will open at Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom park in Orlando, Florida in 2017. That year, James Cameron plans to release a sequel to his hit 2009 sci-fi film.

Stars Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington have signed on to reprise their roles in three more Avatar movies.
