Anthony Mackie definitely has a way of explaining himself.
The actor made an interesting comparison during an interview with The Daily Beast, when he was asked whether he feels it's crucial that a black director takes on Marvel's first stand-alone black superhero movie, Black Panther.
"I don't think it's important at all," he said, and then added, "As a director your job is to tell a story. You know, they didn't get a horse to direct Seabiscuit!"
Mackie went on to try and clarify his comment: "The thing is I don't think the race of the director has to do with their ability to tell a story. I think it's all about the director's ability to be able to relate to that story and do it justice. I think men can direct women, and two of my greatest work experiences were with female directors. So I think it all depends. May the best man—or woman—win."
When the Our Brand Is Crisis star's remarks hit the Internet, the Twitterverse was quick to respond, however, the reactions were mixed. Some found themselves offended and slammed the celeb for what he said, while others thought it was kinda funny:
That #Seabiscuit comment from @AnthonyMackie tells us a lot more about what Mackie thinks of himself than anything else.

Yes, Anthony Mackie, you might hire a horse to direct "Seabiscuit" if you cared what horses thought of the movie. https://t.co/0ijUemivEh

Coincidentally, this isn't the first time this week that Mackie's comments raised some eyebrows.
On Tuesday, the 37-year-old made headlines after he seemingly endorsed Donald Trump. "I would 100 percent want to run Trump's campaign. 100 percent. I mean, first that'll be the best party ever when he won, and second, Trump's an easy sell," he told BET.
However, after catching wind of the response, Mackie took to Twitter to explain that it was just a joke, albeit a bad one: "Sorry Donald, that wasn't an endorsement. Just a bad attempt at a joke, I guess?"
Oh, Anthony.
