A day after Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom called off their divorce, new details have emerged that help answer one very obvious question—why?

Simply, Kardashian still loves Odom and never stopped, a source tells E! News.

The couple, who wed in 2009 after a month-long whirlwind romance, had both finally signed their divorce papers in July after Kardashian first filed her petition in 2013. However, E! News learned last week that due to a backlog issue at the court, the famous pair were still bound by law despite having gone on to lead separate lives.

Kardashian had her name legally changed and even began dating again, entering romances with rapper French Montana and basketball player James Harden. She was still dating Harden when Odom was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel on Oct. 13.

While it was difficult to endure, Odom's brush with tragedy has brought the former couple closer together, a source tells E! News. When the 35-year-old basketball star was admitted to the hospital after an overdose, Kardashian immediately flew to Nevada to be at his side, spending each night in his room and assuming responsibility for major medical decisions.

They may have been split for several years, but the 31-year-old reality star's care for her former husband was still very apparent.

This was an awful situation but it could be a blessing in disguise if it turns out to be the reality check Odom needed to maintain his recovery, the source says.

In the meantime, Kardashian continues to spend time at her husband's side.

"I will never, ever not love Lamar," she told E! News in April, four months after filing for divorce. "I was so obsessed with him in a healthy way. He was my husband, and I still wish he was, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that."
