Still singing "rotten to the core"? Well, get ready for more!

It's official: Descendants 2 is happening! Disney Channel announced on Thursday that a sequel script to their latest hit original movie has been commissioned from Sarah Parriott and Josann McGibbon, the first movie's screenwriters. No plot details have been released, and a premiere date has yet to be announced.

"By almost every measure—domestically and globally—Descendants has already become one of the biggest entertainment properties of the year and we're eager to delve deeper into the unfolding mythology of Auradon and Isle of the Lost," Gary Marsh, President and Chief Creative Office, Disney, Channels Worldwide, said in a statement. This kind of compelling, innovative storytelling, alongside our animated Descendants: Wicked World shorts and unique transmedia campaign, continues to lay the groundwork for multiple franchise opportunities across virtually every line of business at The Walt Disney Company."

After its premiere in July attracted 6.6 million viewers (and grew to 12.2 million with L+7 numbers factored in), Descendants became cable television's fifth highest-rated movie of all-time. And according to the Disney Channel, Descendants has reached 32 million total viewers worldwide. Talk about a happily ever after!

The hit movie centered on the redemption of four of the children of some of Disney's most iconic villains: Mal, (Dove Cameron), daughter of Maleficent (Kristin Chenoweth); Carlos (Cameron Boyce), son of Cruella De Vil (Wendy Raquel Robinson); Evie (Sofia Carson), daughter of The Evil Queen (Kathy Najimy); and Jay (Booboo Stewart), son of Jafar (Maz Jobrani). Other iconic characters, like the Fairy Godmother, Mulan and more, all made appearances, too.

And lucky fans at Disneyland will get to celebrate with the cast on Saturday, Oct. 17, when the four stars and the first movie's director and choreographer Kenny Ortega take to Downtown Disney for a music and dance-filled event.
