Busted. We're all guilty of "phubbing" every so often, but did you know it could be negatively influencing your relationships?

Coined by James A. Roberts, Ph.D., he explains the term as follows:

"To be phubbed is to be snubbed by someone using their cell phone while in your company. The 'phubb' could be an interruption of your conversation with someone when he or she uses their cell phone or is distracted by it (furtive glances when they think you're not looking) instead of paying attention to you."

The Ben H. Williams Professor of Marketing at Baylor's Hankamer School of Business notes, the term stems from a pairing of two words, phone and snubbing. The trend could lead to possible depression and relationship issues if you're not careful.

Lucky for you, he has also created a nifty little quiz to figure out if your phubbing game is a little too on fleek.

For those of us who find ourselves consistently in the company of a phubber, take note. Now it is possible to stage a phubbing intervention thanks to anti-phubbing activists.

Don't want to lose friends but can't break the addiction? Fear not, we're recommending the double-phub. Sit with your honey and gaze lovingly into the screens of your phones together! Ah, modern romance.
