The Goonies fans have questions, and Sean Astin kinda-sorta-not-really has some answers!

The original star of the 1985 cult classic took to Facebook to address the ongoing rumors about whether or not there's going to be a sequel—and basically, the answer is yes. But nobody knows when that's going to happen.

"I have always believed that there will be a Goonies Sequel, because Steven Spielberg told me in 1988 that he wanted to make one," Astin wrote on Facebook.

"Richard Donner has said that it is in the works. Warner Brothers is enjoying a very successful merchandising experience with the 'title.' If it gets made in my lifetime, I will root for it, whether I'm in it or not. If it gets made after I'm no longer here to be in it or to watch it, I still know in my heart, guts, wherever, the it will get made."

The former child star continued, "The fact that I'm asked about it everywhere I go is amusing. The fact that people just make stuff up about it, also hilarious. Now, I have said all I am going to say on the subject until 5 minutes from now when another Goonies loving neighbor wants me to give them the inside scoop. Spoiler, no scoop."

Astin expressed interest in doing the sequel a year ago after word of one being in the works was first announced. "My first thought when Dick said he was doing that was like, ‘Alright, maybe this time it's true!' I hope it's true," Astin told us at the 2014 ATX TV Festival, where he was promoting his new FX series The Strain.

"I certainly like the idea of doing it. I don't know if I'd be in it or not. If they really wanted us to be in it, I'm sure there would be some way to work it out."

Until then, though, Astin is keeping busy with an upcoming triathlon! "Oh, PS If you want to know what I'm up to now...in 12 days I'm competing in the 140.6 mile Ironman Championship Triathlon in Kona, Hawaii. I'm running for a charity I founded to help kids get exercise and learn about community," he wrote on Facebook.
