The Muppets Is "Perverted," According to People Boycotting It Who (Probably) Haven't Seen It

A family values group is VERY upset at ABC's The Muppets and its risqué marketing, predicting the show "will cover a range of topics from sex to drugs" and calling for a boycott of the sitcom, which will see Jim Henson's felt creatures running a late night talk show.

The organization, One Million Moms, is no stranger to a public protest, having boycotted everything from Pop Tarts to JC Penney for various reasons. This time, they're worried about how "shocked" parents are going to be when they find out "the family-friendly Muppets of the 1970s are no more."

"It appears that no subject is off limits," the group wrote on their website. "ABC's new Muppet Show…is not what Jim Henson imagined and created. The new show is aimed at a mature, modern audience and addresses subjects not suitable for family viewing."

Since the show hasn't actually premiered yet, the group mostly objects to the racy ads describing the show as "an adult Muppet show" and having full-frontal nudity (which, as they note, is correct because Kermit the Frog does not wear pants), and the fact that Miss Piggy is a "pro-choice feminist" and that "the puppet characters loved by kids in the 1970s and 1980s and beyond are now weighing in on abortion and promiscuity."

Although ABC has said some kids can watch and enjoy some of the humor, 1MM believes the show is actually "ruined" because they don't want to "explain the punchline of sexually charged jokes to young children." (Which is a very good point, though no one at ABC advocated explaining the jokes to kids; the jokes could just go over their heads and they would be none the wiser.)

Finally, the group wants you to heed its warning: "Many parents unknowingly will let their children watch an episode only to find out its perverted nature too late, unless they are alerted ahead of time."

Hear that, parents? Make sure to monitor the programming you're letting your kids watch to be sure it's appropriate for them. Like you probably should be doing anyway as part of the whole parenting thing.

The Muppets airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC beginning Sept. 22.
