Allison Janney Makes Emmy History With Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Win for Mom

Mom star picked up her seventh career Emmy for her work on the CBS drama

Allison Janney's going to need a new mantle place for her seventh Emmy. The Mom star took home the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, her second award for her work on the CBS comedy. She is now tied with Ed Asner for most performance Emmy wins.

Janney was in a tight category with Getting On's Niecy Nash, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star Jane Krakowski, Saturday Night Live standout Kate McKinnon, Mayim Bialik of The Big Hang Theory, Modern Family favorite Julie Bowen, Veep's Anna Chlumsky and Transparent star Gaby Hoffmann.

Janney has won previously for The West Wing and Masters of Sex. She went on stage with an extra accessory: her "blotting thing."

"I apparently brought my blotting thing up with me as well you know what that was like out there," she said. "I'm just starting to cool down."

The actress thanked her fellow nominees, calling them amazing and saying she feels like she "won the lottery" because of the talent she was up against. After going into a sing-song list of thank yous, Janney ended it on a serious note.

"So many lives are touched by addiction," she said. "It's a privilege to work on a show that reminds us there is hope, lots of hope. Thanks for this."

Tony Hale picked up the Supporting Actor in a Comedy series award for Veep. "To the other nominees you guys make me laugh hard," Hale said. "I just had a fear my zipper's down." Hale, who previously won the award, also thanked Arrested Development's Mitch Hurwitz.
