Justin Bieber kind of knows how to party.

The "What Do You Mean?" singer decided to challenge his friend to a beer shotgunning contest while partying in Las Vegas over the weekend, but it seems the 21-year-old just couldn't keep up. In a video posted to Instagram, Justin loses by a long shot! His loss didn't stop him from celebrating though, as it seems finishing the beer at all was a feat for the recently legal drinker.

Don't worry. He explained in his caption why he didn't perform up to snuff. "I lost but I didn't go to college @sammy," he captioned the video. Justin has come a long way since he first mentioned drinking beer in a GQ interview when he was just 18. At the time, the "Boyfriend" singer claimed he had had a beer but never wanted to go overboard.

"For me, it's just like, I like to be in control of myself," he told the magazine in 2012. "I mean, I've had a beer, like, before...But I never get out of control."

The interviewer later shared Justin's comment with his manager, Scooter Braun, who added, "He knows that I hold him to a high standard...He doesn't want to blow it."

Three years later and a heck of a lot of hindsight, Justin seems to be living this mantra once again, trying his very hardest to return to the pop star Beliebers came to know and love. After hitting a couple of bumps in the road, including an arrest in Miami, Justin has been telling reporters that he is over his bad-boy phase.

"I just want to be around people who I feel are supporting me, uplifting me, and making sure I'm the best version of myself because there are so many people in this industry who just want to keep seeing me fall," he told Elvis Duran at the end of August.

"It has to be on you. You have to make the conscious effort, because for me, so many times it was good people coming in my life and tugging at me, but I wasn't ready," he added. "They're like, 'Justin, come on.' But I wasn't ready to take that leap and be like, 'Okay, this is what I want to change, this is who I am, and this is not who I am.' It takes moments of clarity to be like, 'Oh, that's why I'm not like this. That's why I shouldn't do this.'"

Even though Justin has spent a fair amount of time working on his reputation—he even created a couple of apology videos—and has finally returned to making his own music, his partying lifestyle might not be behind him after all. Then again, if he keeps losing these contests, he might want to give up on drinking beer altogether.
