Ellen DeGeneres may have scared Emily Blunt out of staying in the U.S.
The host played a prank on her guest during Monday's show after discussing the 32-year-old Sicario star's recent naturalization. "You have to learn a whole lot of things to become a citizen," DeGeneres said. Blunt agreed and playfully boasted, "I know more about the constitution and government than most American citizens."
DeGeneres' wife, Portia de Rossi, became a U.S. citizen in 2011. When the Arrested Development star was studying for her test, the host said she recalled thinking, "I don't even know these questions...things that we don't have to learn at all."
"Do you know patriotic songs and things like that?" DeGeneres asked Blunt.
"I feel like this going to get me in trouble," the actress said.
DeGeneres said the British actress should learn patriotic songs, "because there are a lot of songs that are sung at different events." To make it fun for all, she asked Blunt to "run back and put something patriotic on." She promised to wear something patriotic, top. "We're going to sing some patriotic songs," she said.
Blunt asked, "Will you sing them with me?"
"I'll sing them with you, sure," DeGeneres said.
