They've made a huge mistake!

Thanks to The Vampire Diaries' crazy flash-forward in the season six finale, we know that when the show returns in October, Mystic Falls will be on its way to utter devastation. And in the first trailer for the new season, which E! Online is debuting exclusively, you can see just how our favorite supernatural enclave will fall to the ultra-evil vampire/witch-hybrid Heretics.

"We don't mess with them, they don't mess with us," Stefan (Paul Wesley) tells his brother, Damon (Ian Somerhalder), of the deal he's struck with his evil "lunatic" mother. (Damon's word, not ours! But accurate.)

Caroline (Candice King), ever the voice of reason, knows that this is a truly terrible idea. "We making a huge mistake handing over our town to a bunch of supernatural terrorists?" she asks Stefan, who is also aware of the poor life choices they're making.

His response? "Yeah, probably."

The action-packed promo also includes some super-scary new villains (these people might out-evil Kai, just saying), poor Caroline getting tortured, poor Caroline getting some action (that is totally Stefan and Caroline making out at 37 seconds, right?!), and bombs. That's right—things are getting explosive this season in a very literal way.

No, there's no sign of a possible Stefan-Caroline baby on the show (yet), but the IRL pregnant King recently told E! when we visited the show's Atlanta set that if it were to happen, the vamps would be ace parents. "I think with vamp speed, that would definitely help with diaper changes," she said. "I don't know if they'd compel a baby not to cry? I don't know if that's cool for vampire parents to do."

The Vampire Diaries returns Thursday, Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
