Nine weeks ago, the actress discovered she was expecting her second child with Kyle Martino. In addition, their daughter Marlowe Mae turned one earlier this month.
But after sharing their happy pregnancy news at Marlowe's birthday party to family and close friends, the Hollywood couple received some deeply upsetting news from their doctor.
"At my next visit for a routine ultrasound, however, the baby's heart was no longer beating," she wrote on her Happily Eva After blog Saturday morning. "Just like that, it was all over."
She added, "What was so shocking to me is how common miscarriages are, versus how little I hear them talked about. I'm not sure if this is because people are ashamed to suffer this loss, or whether the loss is simply too painful to share (I can see how this could be the case also)."
In a candid and personal blog post, Susan Sarandon's daughter explained the "developmental problem with the fetus" that stopped it from growing. Another twist in Eva's story is that the Undateable star had minimal nausea and was "feeling great" in recent weeks.
"To anybody enduring similar heartache, I will tell you what I'm feeling and processing as a result of this loss: A lot of confusion, some anger, deep sadness, and also an immense amount of gratitude," she wrote. "I have realized in the past forty-eight hours how incredibly grateful I am for the magic that I have in my life."
That magic includes daughter Marlowe who will continue to bring joy to a family sharing their story to help others.
"Most of all, I have a healthy and happy daughter who I can hold in my arms and whisper in to her ear how much I adore her and how blessed I feel that I was lucky enough to bring her in to the world," Eva explained. "I have so much."
