Robin Thicke went through a very painful, public divorce from Paula Patton, and even tried to win her back in public, but it was to no avail.

Although he struggled for a long time after splitting from his then-wife, Thicke is doing a lot better these days. While appearing on Good Morning America Wednesday, the "Blurred Lines" singer talked to Robin Roberts about his new song, "Back Together," and life without his wife. With a title like that, however, she had to ask the question: Is this song about Patton?

"Actually I didn't write this song so I can't take credit for the meaning," he said. "I just heard this idea of getting back together and getting yourself back together, and what I was going through at the time I really really related to that and connected to it."

Although he has gotten himself back together—he's even dating someone new—Thicke said that his new single, which also features Nicki Minaj, is more about learning to trust other people again. "It's more about the theme of getting yourself back together with love and partnership," he said.

He also explained to the ABC co-host how he learned to deal with his painful divorce, telling Roberts that he turned to the only place he thought of: his parents.

"I spent a lot of time with my parents even, talking with them and getting their advice," he dished. "I always kind of grew up thinking I knew what I was doing you know?"

With the help of his parents, Thicke was able to move on and find love again with 20-year-old April Geary Love. His father, Alan Thicke, even told E! News recently that he has given her the seal of approval! "She's lovely," Alan admitted. "It's a great time for him. [He has an] album coming out and April is there and supportive."

Although Robin is, 38, is 18 years older than his significant other, it doesn't seem to matter to the Thickes.

"The apple doesn't fall far from the tree," said Alan's wife Tanya.

"I wouldn't expect anything less," Tanya said, adding, "I think it's also very important that she's also very mature. I think that says a lot. She's a very mature young lady. A very beautiful, smart, mature young lady."
