If you thought Donald Trump made a comment about menstruation while insulting Megyn Kelly, you are sorely mistaken.

The presidential candidate and real estate mogul raised eyebrows and sparked outrage on Friday night and also got himself disinvited from an event for GOP hopefuls after he made a seemingly misogynistic remark in a CNN interview about the Fox News host, who had grilled him at the recent first Republican debate about past offensive comments towards women.

"I don't have a lot of respect for Megyn Kelly—she's a lightweight," said Trump, who maintains he won the debate. "She gets out and she starts asking me all sorts of ridiculous questions and, you know, you could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever."

Kelly has not commented. On Saturday, Trump, who has also faced controversy over offensive remarks about Mexican immigrants, issued a statement through his campaign office.

"Mr. Trump made Megyn Kelly look really bad—she was a mess with her anger and totally caught off guard. Mr. Trump said 'blood was coming out of her eyes and whatever,' meaning nose, but wanted to move on to more important topics," Trump's campaign office said in a statement obtained by E! News. "Only a deviant would think anything else."

Trump also took to Twitter to respond to the controversy.

"So many 'politically correct' fools in our country," Trump tweeted. "We have to all get back to work and stop wasting time and energy on nonsense!"

Amid the backlash, RedState.com editor Erick Erickson announced in a statement that he had disinvited Trump from the RedState Gathering that takes place in Atlanta this weekend. Trump was set to give the keynote speech at the event, which is also set to feature appearances from other Republican candidates.

"I think there is no way to otherwise interpret Mr. Trump's comment," Erickson wrote. "His comment was inappropriate. It is unfortunate to have to disinvite him. But I just don't want someone on stage who gets a hostile question from a lady and his first inclination is to imply it was hormonal. It just was wrong. I have invited Megyn Kelly to attend in Donald Trump's place tomorrow night."

In his campaign office's statement, Trump fired back at Erickson, calling him a "total loser."

"It is an honor to be uninvited from his event," the statement added.

He also tweeted, ".@redstate I miss you all, and thanks for all of your support. Political correctness is killing our country. 'Weakness.'"
