Stephen Colbert's Late Show debut just got about a billion degrees hotter.

The funnyman announced on Twitter on Friday that his first guest will be none other than George Clooney.

"George Clooney will be my first-ever #LSSC guest on September 8th!" Colbert said. "Could one of you let him know?"

Clooney's upcoming appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert does not appear to coincide with a project release. The Oscar winner, last seen in Disney's Tomorrowland, can be seen on the big screen next in the Bill Murray film A Very Murray Christmas, which is set for release in December.

Clooney never appeared on Colbert's former show, Comedy Central's The Colbert Report, which ended in December after 11 seasons. The talk show host has, however, poked fun at him on the series.

"As a famous person, I know all other famous people except for one: George Clooney," Colbert said on The Colbert Report in 2011. "Folks, I have often fantasized about getting invited to Clooney's palazzo in Italy, getting drunk and going skinny dipping in Lake Como. "

Colbert was in April 2014 announced as David Letterman's replacement on The Late Show. The veteran talk show host and comedian retired from television this past May after 33 years. Colbert has in recent months appeared in funny promos for The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

Herose to fame as a correspondent and writer for The Daily Show. He joined the series in 1997, when it was hosted by Craig Kilborn, and appeared on it regularly for years, including after Jon Stewart took over in 1999.

On Thursday, Colbert and other past and present Daily Show correspondents appeared on the show to bid Stewart farewell following his 16-season run as host. Colbert made him get emotional. Watch the segment below.
