"I am in absolute shock. I was out of the country traveling to meet my daughters for a birthday celebration when I got the devastating news," she said in a statement to E! News. "The loss of a child is an unthinkable tragedy and my heart goes out to this young mans family and friends. I ask that you please respect the privacy of all concerned during this sensitive time."
A man was found dead inside a pool in the backyard of Demi Moore's Los Angeles home early on Sunday while the actress and her family were away, E! News has learned.
The 52-year-old actress, mother of Rumer Willis, 26, Scout Willis, who will turn 24 on Monday, and Tallulah Willis, 21, has not commented. Moore and her family were not home at the time and are not involved in the incident, a law enforcement source told E! News.
The source said the man was 21 years old and that his death was caused by accidental drowning. Police and the fire department were notified via an anonymous 911 call. There were five people at the home when authorities arrived, the source said.
A Los Angeles Coroner's Office spokesperson told E! News that the man was pronounced dead at 5:34 a.m. The law enforcement source said the death was ruled accidental at 7:18 a.m.
Rumer is currently in New York City, preparing to star in the Broadway musical Chicago. Scout lives there and Moore and Tallulah recently jetted off to the city after spending time in Paris, another source told E! News.
Several weeks ago, Tallulah shared pics from their family's pool parties.
