One Direction kicked off the North American leg of its On the Road Again world tour Thursday night in San Diego, Calif. It was the boy band's first American concert since Zayn Malik quit the group in March.

When Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson were performing "Through the Dark," Styles dragged his microphone and fell backwards. While still on the ground, he laughed at the incident.

Without mentioning Styles' slip-up, Horan tweeted about the show. "San Diego! U were badass! The stadium was one of the best I've ever seen, the crowd was insane! Loved every minute of it," he wrote.

Earlier this month, Styles was asked whether the boy band's choreography has changed since Malik's exit. "Not really. I feel like you want me to say yes, but no!" he told Entertainment Weekly with a laugh. "We don't really do much choreography anyway. We kind of just stand on stage. We're still doing that!"

"The only changes have been that the parts Zayn sang have been picked up by different people," he said.

One Direction hasn't modified the set list to accommodate for songs like "Story of My Life," in which Malik had a big solo. "It would be pretty devastating if we took that song out," Styles, 21, explained. "Liam stepped up to do the high notes. He kicks them in the bollocks every show. He doesn't hold back."

Regarding the group's musical future, Styles told the magazine, "We're currently recording and writing our next album, so we'll be working on that. The songs are coming together quickly, so we're buzzing with the new stuff. It carries a slightly new identity, but I think it's an obvious change from [Four] in a positive way. We've branched out and worked with different writers, and we've got some great songs!"

One Direction's tour continues Saturday at Levi's Stadium in San Francisco, Calif.
