How would Jaden Smith act if he was living in the ‘70s? We're about to find out!

E! News can confirm the 16-year-old actor has joined the cast of Baz Luhrmann's music-driven drama titled The Get Down.

In the Netflix series, Smith will star as Marcus "Dizzie" Kipling who is a psychedelically talented and enigmatic graffiti writer raised in the South Bronx. And yes, the story takes place in the famous disco and hippie era.

"We as an audience have known Jaden since he was very young. Recently, Jaden has been seeking diverse and challenging roles and this is a testament to his passion to grow in the craft," Luhrmann said in a statement to E! News. "In the short time he has joined our acting family, he has begun developing his The Get Down skill set, even taking lessons from the legendary graffiti artist Lady Pink of 'Wild Style' fame, as well as steeping himself in the history and culture of the Bronx."

He added, "We're all very happy with the casting of Jaden…The Kipling family cast is now complete."

The West Wing alum Jimmy Smits and Paper Towns star Justice Smith will also be a part of the cast.

Fans of Smith may know the actor from his work on the big screen including The Pursuit of Happyness, The Karate Kid and After Earth. They also may recognize him from his wacky fashion and mind blowing interviews.

Oh, didn't you read his T Magazine interview? Let' s just say he had a lot of things to sound off on including the topic of school.

"Kids who go to normal school are so teenagers, so angsty…You never learn anything in school," he shared with the publication. "Think about how many car accidents happen every day. Driver's ed? What's up? I still haven't been to driver's ed because if everybody I know has been in an accident, I can't see how driver's ed is really helping them out."

Well, in that case, we're glad you'll be busy with this new project. The 13-episode series is expected to debut on Netflix sometime in 2016.
