But little did she know that her boyfriend since high school had a big secret that would make her battle totally worth fighting for. Yes, he was ready to pop the very important question!
With help from family, friends and even nurses, 24-year-old Lucas D'Onofrio transformed his girlfriend's hospital room into a romantic destination with candles, heart-shaped balloons and even some tunes from Ed Sheeran.
"I wanted it to be a symbol or closing the chapter of cancer in her life and opening a new chapter with our lives together," Lucas shared with Buzzfeed. "I called the nurses to see if they could help me out and keep it a secret because I was going to propose to her."
Holding her IV machine, Bruzzo followed a pathway of red petals into her hospital room where she was welcomed with a bouquet of roses. And you guessed right, her man was ready to get down on one knee to propose.
After she said yes, fireworks began to go off outside, a move that was totally planned by the groom-to-be.
"I hope you all enjoy it as I put lots of time and work on all of this with the help of my family, 2nd family, friends, and nurses at the Boca Raton Regional Hospital!" D'Onofrio wrote on YouTube as his video goes viral. "Thank you all who helped me, I couldn't have pulled this off without your help!"
As for Bruzzo's health today, all signs point to a quick and smooth recovery.
"We are sure this is her last chemo," D'Onofrio shared with Buzzfeed. "Her mass went down in size by 70 perfect after her second chemo session."
