AKM-GSITom Cruise's million dollar smile wasn't looking so rich yesterday.
In fact, when the 52-year-old old was spotted in an Atlanta suburb Tuesday, it appeared to onlookers that he was missing a tooth. But (spoiler alert!), Tom's chompers are all intact, and no, he's not just in serious need of floss...So what's behind his gap-toothed grin?! It's all thanks to the magic of movie makeup!
Tom is currently in Georgia shooting for Mena, an upcoming film in which he plays real-life pilot-turned-drug trafficker Barry Seal. Understandably, some locals were a bit confused by the actor's disheveled appearance (if you look closely, you'll see in addition to his "missing" tooth, he also has some painful-looking bruises on his face). Being the nice guy that he is, though, Tom chatted with the onlookers and revealed he was sporting this haggard look for his role in the flick.
Clearly, Tom's confidence wasn't affected by his temporarily less-than-stellar smile. Back in 2002, he briefly wore braces (as an adult), and that didn't stop him then from flashing those pearly whites!
Even after these repairs, though, people have found reason to criticize that Top Gun grin. If you Google "Tom Cruise mono-tooth," you'll come across a gracious plenty diagrams and images nitpicking the star's slightly asymmetrical smile from every angle.
Basically, it goes to show you that even movie star mouths can't hold up to the Internet's standards! But if Tom keeps smiling even when his grill is intentionally messed up (like it was on the set of Mena), then maybe the rest of us can just grin and bear it, too, when the critics take on our teeth!
