To describe Bruce Jenner's transition as emotional would certainly be an understatement.

But after the Keeping Up With the Kardashians: About Bruce special aired earlier this week, the Kardashian family is left feeling grateful for all the support they are getting from viewers across the country.

"They are all relieved and so overwhelmed by the positive reaction from the public," a family source revealed to E! News exclusively. "The girls have come a long way since the special was taped, but having it air was therapeutic."

The two-part special taped in January just a couple of weeks before Bruce sat down with Diane Sawyer to confirm he was transitioning from a man to a woman. That interview would air in April in front of 17 million viewers.

(At this time, Bruce Jenner has not chosen to publicly identify as a woman and so E! News will continue to refer to him as Bruce and use male pronouns, until he indicates otherwise.)

Bruce Jenner, About Bruce

When it came to this week's emotional special with the family, many fans were touched by Bruce's candid conversation with Kris Jenner. As it turns out, the open and honest discussion was very spur of the moment.

"It was on a Sunday and Bruce out of the blue called Kris and said he was coming over," a source revealed exclusively to E! News. "There wasn't the usual Keeping Up With the Kardashians crew available, so in order to document their talk, they hustled to get a camera and sound guy they've been working with for years, who are like part of the family."

As a result, the talk felt "very intimate and more private" allowing the two to truly open up.

"We raised amazing children and those memories will live inside me forever," the Olympic athlete shared with Kris. "And I will continue to have more of those wonderful, wonderful memories. And I just want to get through this and do the best damn job of not hurting anybody, and that includes you."

"I just want you to know that you were a great dad, you were a great friend, and you were a great partner," Kris added. "At the end of the day, it's not about my feelings.  It's about you and I just want you to be happy."
