You know that dreaded moment when you or your ex has to swap Facebook defaults after your relationship comes to an end? Or the moment you have to "cancel" said relationship on the social media platform? Well, Zayn Malik essentially did just that...with his fans...and it's not going well.

The former One Direction member has erased all evidence of the band from his Twitter profile, leaving fans to wonder if he was ever really part of it at all. His handle used to be @ZaynMalik1D but now it's just a lonely @ZaynMalik. He also deleted his short bio that used to say, "Just close your eyes and enjoy the roller coaster that is life :) x."

Now, all that's left behind is nothing. No bio, no quotes...nothing. Zayn opted only to fill in the location, England. Since erasing his boy band past, Zayn has tweeted only once, and it's definitely a cryptic message! "Is speech an extension to our thoughts or an image that we like to create x," he posed to his followers.

Of course, as soon as Zayn erased 1D from his social media, Directioners went into a frenzy. The hashtag #YouWillAlwaysBeZaynMalik1D took off almost instantly, with fans calling out for the 22-year-old singer. Here are just some of the devastated reactions from the fandom:

He remained relatively quiet on social media after departing the group, but resurfaced near the end of April when he thanks his fans and those close to him for the constant support. He wrote, "Wanna say thanks to everyone that's been there for me over the last few weeks, love you all.. you know who you are x. The x is a kiss by the way ha it's not a mystery .. sorry to any confused ...."

But rest assured, Directioners, there's still some hope that Zayn could return to 1D. When Stephen Hawking was asked about the "cosmological effect" Zayn had on leaving the boy band, the 73-year-old astrophysicist hit the nail on the head.

"My advice to any heartbroken young girl is to pay attention to the study of theoretical physics because, one day, there may well be proof of multiple universes," said Hawking. "It would not be beyond the realms of possibility that somewhere outside of our own universe lies another, different universe and, in that universe, Zayn is still in One Direction."

Thank goodness.
