Like, ermahgerd, Jean Grey and Jubilee look totally radical in X-Men: Apocalypse!
You can now check out a first look at franchise newbies Sophie Turner and Lana Condor dressed as their characters from the film and standing on the set, as seen in an Instagram post director Bryan Singer shared on Thursday. Also, that day, new character posters for the Fantastic Four reboot, another Marvel film, were revealed. It's superhero Thursday, apparently!
In Singer's pic, Turner, best known for playing Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones, sports acid-washed jeans and a striped shirt, with her red hair styled in what appears to be a body wave. Jean, you look tubular!
Standing next to her and smiling is Condor dressed as Jubilee, wearing a printed T-shirt tucked into baggy pants, covered by a yellow motorcycle-style jacket adorned with colorful badges (flair!) and paired with big hoop earrings and a wavy Punky Brewster-like hairstyle. The film marks the onscreen acting debut for the actress.
X-Men Apocalypse is the third installment of Singer's prequel film series and focuses on the younger versions of the X-Men mutants. It serves as a sequel to the 2014 movie X-Men: Days of Future Past, parts of which were set in the '70s.
Singer also shared another pic of himself on one of the X-Men: Apocalypse sets, which is made to look like a shopping mall in 1983, the year another movie in another famous trilogy was released.
In the Marvel comic books on which the movies are based, Jubilee is a gymnast and orphan who is able to shoot energy blasts and honed her power in a mall, using it as a method of busking. Jean possesses telekinetic powers and telepathic powers. (Watch Turner demonstrate some sweet moves below!)
The character has two love interests—Cyclops, who Tye Sheridan plays in the new movie, and Wolverine, who Hugh Jackman has played in every previous X-Men movie so far. It is unclear if he will appear in X-Men: Apocalypse. He teased his "last time" as Wolverine in a cryptic Instagram photo last month.
Singer had earlier this week revealed the first photo of Kodi Smit-McPhee as the blue teleporting mutant Nightcrawler and has previously posted pictures and revealed names of other members of the cast, new and returning. He said two weeks ago that Olivia Munn will make her debut as the mutant Psylocke, aka Betsy Braddock, who has powers similar to Jean's.
