Like many fans of the royal family, Prince Charles hopes grandson Prince George will soon have a little sister.

"We're hoping for a granddaughter!" the 66-year-old royal remarked to a 100-year-old Welsh Guardsmen on Thursday at Windsor castle, where Queen Elizabeth II presented new colors to the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards in honor of their centenary year.

His wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwell, also commented on the upcoming birth while speaking with another veteran's wife. "I asked if she had any news and she said; 'No'" Maureen Morris told reporters. "I said; 'It will be great when it happens.'"

Currently pregnant with her second child with husband Prince WilliamKate Middleton is officially overdue after revealing last month that her due date was "mid to end" of April. She was photographed on Tuesday driving through the gates of Buckingham Palace, where it was believed that the expectant beauty stopped by for a dip in the pool her one-year-old son.

Lynda Bateman, whose father, Eric Jones, is the oldest surviving member of the Welsh Guards, told reporters on Thursday about her encounter with the Prince of Wales. "My father introduced me as his daughter and Prince Charles asked how many daughters he had.

"My father said 'One – and that's enough' and Charles laughed and said 'And we're hoping for a granddaughter!'" she revealed.

Meanwhile, this isn't the first time Charles has expressed his desire to add a little more girl power to the royal family.

"It's wonderful to be a grandfather again," Charles said, per BBC News, shortly after it was revealed that Kate is pregnant with her second child. "I'm looking forward to it—but I hope it will be a girl this time."

The elder prince, the eldest child of 89-year-old reigning monarch Queen Elizabeth II, also previously called the pregnancy news "splendid."
