ABCCould we be seeing Raven-Symoné's face on The View panel permanently?
After doing a couple guest co-hosting stints in March, a report surfaced that claimed ABC is "desperately" trying to get the former child star to sign on as a regular host, alongside Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie Perez, before their upfronts in New York on May 12.
"She was interesting and provocative. Raven would be great as a regular host," an ABC rep reportedly told Page Six. While the network doesn't take away from the fact that Raven was a wonderful guest co-host, they also tell E! News that plans to make her a regular part of the daytime talk show have not been made.
"She's been terrific as a guest co-host. No decision imminent—all proceeding as planned as we've said for months," an ABC rep tells us.
E! News has reached out to Symoné's rep.
Raven created quite the stir during her short time on The View by debating topics that involved sensitive matters concerning Michelle Obama.
The 29-year-old gave her opinion on the controversial headlines at the time that surrounded comments made by Univision's Rodner Figueroa on the program El Gordo Y La Flaca when he stated, "Mind you, you know that Michelle Obama looks like she's part of the cast of Planet of the Apes, the film."
"Was he saying it racist-like? Because he said that he voted for her later and I don't think he was saying it racist," she said, and continued, "Michelle, don't fire me for this right now, but some people look like animals. Is that true?...I look like a bird. Can I be mad if somebody calls me Tucan Sam?"
After being on the receiving-end of some backlash, Raven clarified what she meant by her comments during an interview with E! News.
"I don't think I was defending," the actress told us. "I think he got fired for a reason. It was very distasteful what he said, it was very distasteful. And I don't believe she looks like one at all. I don't believe she should've been casted, but I do know that a lot of people I know have animal traits."
"I think any time something is dealing with race, that is still an open wound and you try to look at it from a different standpoint, people are gonna get mad," she continues. "Especially when it's socially out, blasted, and people don't read the whole story."
