Remember the flat-iron craze of 2010? Stars like Gwyneth Paltrow, Mila Kunis and Sandra Bullock made pin-straight hair a signature of their look at the time—and it launched an eponymous trend (that currently feels deflated).

Now, the freshest way to go straight includes making hair appear weightless. It's about hair that's smooth and perfectly straight, or "aerated," as celeb hairstylist Noogie Nguyen would call it. Nguyen has styled hair for stars likeNina Dobrev and recently created the look for models at the Wolk Morais resort 2016 show.

"The aerated idea comes from wanting the hair to move and bounce with flawless shine as the models walk down the runway or a girl walks down the street," said Nguyen, an international trainer for Paul Mitchell.

By adding a bit of lift at the roots and blow-drying hair with minimal products, straight hair goes from basic to modern-day Jane Birkin. And with celebs likeElle Fanning and Gigi Hadid going aerated, it's primed to be the new gold standard in ultra straight.

Get the look: Nguyen started with slightly damp hair and created a clean part. Next, he applied Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger MirrorSmooth High Gloss Primer (out in June) through the hair and used a round brush and plenty of tension to blow-dry hair on medium to high heat. This builds natural-looking volume at the top of the head while creating high-polish shine to the shafts of the hair, for a sleek texture that doesn't fall flat.

He finished the look by applying a light spritz of Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger Shine Spray and taking a few passes through the shafts of the hair with a straightening iron to smooth the length of the hair, while preserving shine and lift at the roots.

"It's easy, clean looking, fresh and uncomplicated," he said—which sums up everything we want to embody for spring.
