Talk about awkward.

OK, let's just get it out in the open: Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan's (Paul Wesley) mother Lily (Annie Wersching) is a total vampire MILF on The Vampire Diaries. And in tonight's episode of the CW drama, we'll learn one of our characters has a surprising history with Mama Salvatore: Damon's BFF Enzo (Michael Malarkey)!

Thanks to flashbacks (finally!) focusing on the roguish vamp, we'll learn just how Enzo became a creature of the night. Yep, Damon's mom turned his best friend.

"We meet on a shipping dock and she takes pity on my situation because my character is dying on tuberculosis and then she ends up being the one who turns me," Malarkey reveals of Enzo and Lily in the flashbacks.

But fans can expect to see two entirely different dynamics between the duo in the flashbacks and in the present-day.

"In the flashbacks, she's almost a kind of maternal figure because she takes pity on me. She ends up taking me under her wing and she recounts some of her own experiences with being alone, with coincide with some of my own feelings as well," Malarkey previews. "And in the present-day, when I do meet her, it's slightly different connection because I basically thought a certain thing happened that wasn't the case and I was blaming her for it. My relationship with her builds on that. It's not as much a maternal thing anymore. The relationship's a little bit more friendly, we'll say."

Is Damon's mom the new Stifler's mom?!

And the final stretch of episodes in season six will explore their complicated relationship more, with Malarkey saying he's looking forward to seeing where the writers take it in season seven. And he's also hoping to see Enzo be the shoulder for Damon to lean on after it's revealed how Elena will exit after Nina Dobrev announced she was leaving the show after this season.

"I'd really be interested in exploring this dynamic between him and Lily and how that's going to effect the Salvatores and specifically his relationship with Damon," Malarkey says. "I really want to delve into Enzo's relationship with Damon...especially that Nina is leaving and we'll see what the storylines are going to be. I can't reveal anything to do with that, but he's probably going to need some support. That's definitely what I'm looking forward to exploring."

The Vampire Diaries airs tonight at 8 p.m. on the CW.
